In Italy, the tax code identifies a citizen in all dealings, not only of fiscal nature, with the Italian public authorities and other administrations. The tax code is issued by the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate).
Students may need it to open an Italian bank account, to rent a flat, to enter into an Italian phone contract and other services. To request the "codice fiscale", students should address directly to the Italian Revenue Agency.
EU students
Students who are citizens of a country of the European Union (EU), Non-EU citizens with Italian citizenship, as well as citizens of Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Andorra, the Principality of Monaco, Republic of San Marino and the Vatican City, can freely travel and stay in Italy for up to a maximum of 90 days.
Students who will be staying in Italy for more than 90 days but in any case temporarily, must register with the temporary population list at the Registry office (Anagrafe) in the city they live and study.
Non-EU students:
Once in Italy students must apply for a residence permit or a declaration of presence (depending from their status).
For the residence permit, we suggest to apply to the Post Office located in Piazza Liber Paradisus 19/B, Bologna.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: To complete the UNIBO enrollment, Non-EU students must turn in to the MIEX TEAM UNIBO a copy of the receipt of payment of the permit to stay/declaration of presence.
