OVERVIEW

At the end of the Master's program, participants will have acquired:
• A sound understanding of the operating principles of electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems, such as lithium batteries.
• Fundamental and technological knowledge of the most advanced materials for energy storage and/or conversion systems, including lithium and post-lithium batteries.
• Familiarity with the main techniques for the characterization of materials and devices, as well as with emerging advanced analytical methods.
• An understanding of battery manufacturing processes and their components.
• Knowledge of end-of-life management processes (reuse, recovery, recycling) for batteries and their components.
• An understanding of the specific properties that materials must possess to optimize battery performance for various applications.
• A basic knowledge of the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Eco-design.
• Awareness of the Raw Materials Economy.
• The ability to apply regulations related to safety and sustainability in production and recycling processes.
• Basic knowledge of digitalization and the application of Artificial Intelligence in industrial processes.

Students who have completed the BattEco Master can join private and public companies, agencies, and institutions nationally and internationally. Graduates of the program will be equipped to:
• Lead research and development activities in laboratory settings
• Support the development and optimization of battery production processes, both at pilot and industrial scales
• Identify strategic production goals, with a focus on cell chemistries, components, and their intended applications
• Manage battery manufacturing facilities
• Coordinate the characterization of the chemical, physical, and electrochemical properties of materials and cells by overseeing analytical laboratories, ensuring compliance with regulations and updating instrumentation
• Perform environmental and safety impact assessments
• Oversee the full design and production cycle, from concept to market launch
• Lead design processes for battery reuse, recycling, and recovery
• Manage quality control throughout the production process

Expert/Consultant capable of overseeing the design, development, and sustainable production of batteries, with particular focus on cell chemistries and their components for various applications—from consumer electronics to electric mobility and stationary systems for renewable energy storage.
• Professional expert in battery material processing technologies
• Professional expert in end-of-life battery management strategies and technologies for battery recovery, recycling, and reuse
• Professional expert in the assessment of critical raw materials for energy applications
• Professional expert in the characterization and analysis of battery materials, cells, and complete battery systems
• Professional capable of conducting research and development in the field of eco-design for electrochemical energy storage systems
• Product/process technologist for the production of battery devices and materials
• Expert/consultant in the analysis, management, and design of sustainable production processes for materials within the battery supply chain
• Expert/consultant capable of managing economic, environmental, and safety aspects of batteries and their components

The Master's program in Battery Ecodesign is primarily aimed at graduates in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Materials Science, Geology, Environmental and Land Engineering and Science, Chemical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Management Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
